Drug Box Stolen

From Scott Taylor, Franklin Memorial Hospital
Best Care Ambulance had a drug box taken from one of its trucks while it was at a local garage for service within the past couple weeks. This was not easy to accomplish, as they utilize a metal tool chest bolted to a shelf.
This information is being offered to alert all other services to prevent a similar incident in the future. Whoever did this may now recognize unattended ambulances as “fair game” for looting. As much as we may hope that our fellow citizens would leave our equipment alone, like the 9/11 terrorist attacks we must now realize that yes, it can happen here.
Services must reevaluate the security measures that they have in place to safeguard their equipment, especially things like medications. As the facility that provides these medications to the services, we obviously have a vested interest that what we furnish will be secure and safe for patient use. Providers have an obligation to their patients to insure that the medications administered have not been tampered with or stored incorrectly. Feel free to contact the EMS Office at either LRGH or FRH if you have questions regarding medication storage or security.
